During the festive period it should sit beside the TV listings – NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s (NHSGGC) essential winter guide.
The colourful booklet, “Know Who to Turn To”, gives details this festive season about how the public should use their health service over the holiday period.
It is being distributed widely throughout GP surgeries, health centres, clinics, pharmacies and opticians and includes vital information such as the opening hours of pharmacies throughout the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area and advice on how to access a GP when surgeries are closed.
The guide also reminds the public that three Minor Injury Units (MIUs) operate at the New Victoria Hospital, New Stobhill Hospital and the Vale of Leven Hospital between 9am-9pm throughout the holiday, for a range of minor physical injuries for adults and children aged five and over.
It also includes contact information about the wide range of out-of-hours services including that staffed by GPs.
Dr Linda de Caestecker, NHSGGC’s Director of Public Health, said: “Whilst GP and dental surgeries close for the two public holidays at Christmas and again at New Year, many other health services remain open. This guide lets you know what to do if someone becomes unwell and can’t wait for the GP surgery to re-open on 28th December and on January 4th following the Christmas and New Year holidays. I’d encourage everybody to make sure to get their copy and keep it handy.”
