Inverclyde CHCP has successfully achieved its Healthy Working Lives Gold award. The award recognises the commitment of the CHCP to improve staff health and wellbeing.
Over the past year Healthy Working Lives has worked hard aiming to provide staff with information, campaigns and activities encourage them toward a healthier lifestyle.
Some of the activities included a Salt Awareness session, a gardening project and a stress awareness session that was requested by staff through the Health Needs Assessment carried out last year.
Checkmylifestyle saw staff having a one to one with a nurse to discuss any concerns around alcohol, weight, exercise as well as undergoing a Blood pressure and cholesterol check. The lifestyle check proved beneficial to some staff who were later referred to their doctor with high blood pressure and high cholesterol, both major factors in heart disease and stroke.
Contrary Mary’s gardening project proved to be particularly popular with staff planting herbs and flowers to create a relaxing place to sit during the summer and they were able to enjoy fresh herbs or their healthy eating lunches.
Staff also took part in a Green Gym clearing and building a footpath at the Parklea Branching Out project and planting some shrubs.
Teams also took part in the the Virtual Walking Challenge to the Olympic stadium which saw 128 staff participate and walking just shy of two million steps with many of the walking groups still continuing.
Director of Inverclyde CHCP Brian Moore said: "Staff health is an important issue and we encouraged all our staff to take part in our activities whether it was information sessions or a walking or jogging group or even our gardening project.
"From the feedback and the interest that staff have shown, being healthy is obviously something that they are interested in as well whether it’s being healthy to work or healthy for their families.
"The lifestyle checks have helped staff who didn’t otherwise know there was a problem, now they have real reasons to work towards a healthier goal and we are delighted to help with that. Achieving the Gold Healthy Working Lives standard is only the beginning, the award has now to be maintained so staff health remains a priority at Inverclyde CHCP and we look forward to even more activities to help staff get fitter and healthier."

The Healthy Working Lives award programme encourages employers and employees to develop healthy promotion and safety themes in the workplace.
Other events organised by Inverclyde CHCP included: stress awareness sessions with Laughter Yoga and Combating Stress DVDs, waist winners taster sessions, healthier Christmas, as well as a health and employability event for local employers, showcasing the services that are run locally that employers can be utilising free of charge to improve staff health such as alcohol services and smokefree services.
