Every room is thoroughly cleaned in between patients. Spot cleans – which are carried out in addition to full cleans - have always formed part of a full cleaning schedule and this is still the case in the new hospital.
There are more domestic and supervisory staff employed at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital site than there were at all the previous hospitals combined. This is due to the hospital having single bedded rooms and we recognise these take longer to clean.
Room cleaning and patient movements are coordinated between nurses and cleaning staff. Patients are only admitted to their room once it has been fully cleaned. Day rooms are available in every ward if slight delays do occur.
There is no shortage of mops. There has been significant investment in cleaning equipment, including mops, which are laundered on site.
We take both infection control and staff welfare extremely seriously. We will continue to work with staff who have concerns about their working patterns.
