A Head and Neck and Sarcoma Oncologist and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (BWOSCC), Glasgow has been honoured by the Founding Fellowship of Faculty Leaders in Healthcare (FMLM) for her work raising the standard of patient care for patients across the West of Scotland.
Dr Ioanna Nixon was awarded the Fellowship this month for her leadership and management in various areas in promoting cancer care at local and National level.
Dr Nixon has been instrumental in improving the leadership of the medical teams at the Centre which has resulted in the standards of patient care improving.
She has also held a National Leadership role in Scotland since 2015 as National Clinical Lead for sarcomas and is one of the first to awarded a Founding Fellowship in recognition of her contribution to patient care through compassionate leadership in Scotland.
Dr Nixon said: “It is a great honour and a huge responsibility to receive this award. Delivering healthcare is team work.
“Everyone should be valued for their contribution, small or big, every day. I feel privileged to be part of an organisation that promotes the ethos and values of excellence in patient care, while at the same time fosters team work and remains committed to working with individuals and teams to ensure safe, equitable, timely, patient centred and compassionate care for all patients.
“I am delighted to be awarded as a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Medical Leaders in Healthcare and passionate in promoting compassionate and resilient Leadership to improve care for patients and to improve experience of the journey for both patients and families."

The Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM) was established in 2011 by all the UK medical royal colleges and faculties and endorsed by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges It is the UK professional home for medical leadership and the primary objective is to raise the standard of patient care by improving medical leadership.
A fellowship of FMLM is awarded through a rigorous assessment process led by peers, involving a portfolio of activities in relation to Leadership and Management and 360 degree feedback undertaken by colleagues both in and out of the organisation.
