One of Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Consultant Microbiologists has issued a call for people experiencing diarrhoea and vomiting not to visit patients in our hospitals due to an increase in the incidence of norvirus in the community.
Dr Aleksandra Marek said: “Norovirus typically has a sudden onset and can spread quickly.
“Most people will recover from the virus within 24 or 48 hours. However, when people are very ill for other reasons, it can be more difficult for them to cope with diarrhoea and vomiting.
“I’d urge hospital visitors to remember the importance of hand hygiene when entering and leaving hospital premises when visiting ill relatives or friends in the hospital.”
