When you have an illness or injury that won’t go away, make an appointment to see your General Practitioner (GP).
Your GP will carry out detailed examinations and provide advice, information and prescriptions. Your GP also provides routine monitoring and management of ongoing health conditions. Examples are diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease. They can provide most contraceptive services, minor surgery, maternity services, and immunisations. They carry out screening such as smears and child health.
Your doctor can refer you to another specialist healthcare professional, if required. This could be for tests and treatment.
Everyone needs to register at their local GP surgery. To find your nearest GP practice, please enter your Postcode in the search box now.
Due to the current risks posed by the COVID-19 outbreak, your GP Out of Hours service will NOT see you if you turn up unexpectedly.
If you feel unwell out with normal surgery hours, call NHS 24 on 111.
They’ll advise on the best course of action and will arrange for you to see a GP if required.
